English 11 Advanced Placement Language and Composition is an upper-level course that will help ensure a smoother transition for high school students into collegiate English. This course intermixes contemporary and classic literature paired with college, AP, and Regents preparatory writing tasks to ensure student understanding in a variety of tasks, including analysis of rhetoric, synthesis of sources, and argumentation in voice. Participating students will take the AP examination in May for a nominal fee, which may provide them with three college credits hours in their transcripts. Students will also take the Common Core Regents examination in early June. Additionally, the New York State Regents examination serves as the culminating assessment in late June, testing listening, literacy, and writing skills. A passing score is mandatory for high school graduation.
