Art for Everyone: Mr. Davies Launches New Annual NY Mills Art Show

Owen Davies

As a new teacher, Mr. Davies is using the research-backed power of visual arts to strengthen and connect the NY Mills community. He is excited to announce a new annual art show on May 19, which will showcase at least one piece of work from every student enrolled in an art class this year. Keep a lookout for more information on the upcoming art show!

Mr. Davies has successfully revamped the Art Department’s course offerings for next year to make the arts more accessible. New classes include Ceramics & Sculpture and Painting & Drawing, which reduce prerequisite hurdles and allow students to pursue their specific creative niches.

Mr. Davies believes in the universal potential of creativity: "I want the community to know that the arts do not have to be about talent, region or money. Art can absolutely thrive in our region and school community if we simply choose to showcase it!"

Through his classroom instruction and after-school Art Club, Mr. Davies aims to make art accessible to everyone. His goal is to use art as a vital tool to help students develop empathy, confidence, critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills that will serve them in any future career.
