Calculated Success: Ms. Mann Brings a Fresh Perspective to NYM Math

Jacqueline Mann

As a recent Master’s in Teaching recipient in her third year of teaching, Ms. Mann brings a fresh perspective to the Math Department. As the only female teacher in the department, she offers a unique connection for students and aims to provide a sense of consistency and stability during a year of significant change.

Demonstrating her dedication to the District, Ms. Mann stepped up to cover middle school math classes during her planning periods when the District faced staffing challenges. She embraced the extra work as a valuable opportunity to build relationships with even more students across the building.

Ms. Mann believes that normalizing errors is the key to mathematical success: "Something I try to instill in my students is that mistakes are an integral part of learning – in my classroom, I not only allow, but encourage corrections on nearly every assignment. I find that when students take advantage of being able to fix their mistakes and truly understand the 'why,' they become so much more successful!"

Beyond the classroom, Ms. Mann is deeply involved in student life as the ninth grade class advisor, a chaperone for school dances and an upcoming assistant softball coach. By supporting students at their extracurricular events, she builds the strong relationships that lead to a positive and productive classroom dynamic.
