The Ultimate Literary Showdown: Battle of the Books with Mrs. Danielle Howe

As our librarian, Mrs. Howe is fostering a vibrant culture of literacy by leading New York Mills students into the exciting arena of the Battle of the Books. This rigorous program challenges students to expand their reading horizons, collaborate closely in teams and celebrate academic achievement.

Throughout the program, student teams read a selected list of diverse, high-quality literature. Under Mrs. Howe's guidance, students participate in local qualifiers, testing their comprehension, memory and teamwork against their peers in a fast-paced trivia format.

Mrs. Howe champions the transformative power of a school library culture: "The library media center is more than just a room with books — it's a hub for curiosity and connection. Programs like Battle of the Books prove that reading can be an exciting, collaborative sport that builds a lifelong community of learners."

By turning reading into a team sport, Mrs. Howe helps NYM students improve critical thinking skills, deepen peer relationships and discover a lasting joy in literature that extends far beyond the classroom walls.
