On November 9, New York Mills elementary students celebrated Veterans Day with a program held in the auditorium with local veterans in attendance.

Students sang songs such as “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” talked about what veterans mean to them and read a poem titled “Mommy, What is a Veteran?” Students also held a white table tribute, which honors service members who are fallen or missing in action, and a poppy tribute, which honors fallen service members.

After a moment of silence students sang a Veterans Day song. Each of the veterans in attendance were then called to the front of the auditorium where they had the opportunity to introduce themselves and tell students which branch of the military they served in.

The Veterans Day celebration concluded with students and attendees singing “God Bless the USA.”

The event was a great way for students to honor veterans and thank them for their service.
