On March 18, the New York Mills Battle of the Books Club was scheduled to take a field trip to Hamilton College for a Regional Battle of the Books Competition against several local school districts. This event was, of course, canceled due to COVID-19. We're happy to announce that on June 10, the New York Mills Battle of the Books Club will meet virtually with members of the Holland Patent Club for a friendly competition based on their knowledge of this year's books.
The clubs had a virtual meet and greet together on June 1, and the students are all very excited to end this school year with a final battle against our rival Holland Patent. Plans are already underway for next year's Battle of the Books and a summer reading list will be generated soon. Students entering grades six through eight who are interested in joining the club should email Mrs. Howe for more information and a copy of the summer reading list to get a jump start on next year! Have a safe and enjoyable summer.
Through combined efforts of students, staff, parents, and community members, our mission is to foster the confidence, knowledge, cognition, and character necessary to instill a strong work ethic, to create an environment of tolerance and respect, and to ignite an attitude of inquiry and enthusiasm for learning that will enable students to become productive, responsible citizens.
