Elementary Students Show #Gratitude Before New Playground is Built

Construction on the new playground at New York Mills Elementary School is set to begin on June 28, and the elementary students couldn’t be more excited!

The new playground will feature equipment that students had a hand in picking out. When it came time to create plans for the new playground, which is part of the Capital Project previously approved by District voters, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shelmidine visited each of the elementary classrooms to ask students what kinds of equipment they would like the new playground to have. The final plans include a zip line, more climbing equipment, more opportunities for swinging and bouncing, handicap accessible swings, and more.

Construction on the new playground is expected to be finished before the 2021-2022 school year begins, and there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at the beginning of the school year to officially open the new playground for student use.

During the last week of school on June 21, elementary students gathered on the current playground and took some photos expressing their #Gratitude for the new playground that they can’t wait to play on in the fall.
