On the evening of June 25, the 36 seniors belonging to the New York Mills Jr./Sr. High School Class of 2021 officially became high school graduates. The graduation ceremony was held on the football field outside the school, where family and friends were able to gather once again at the conclusion of an unusual school year.
Following the processional, Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem, the valedictorian, Victor Lee, and the salutatorian, Heather Roberts, were presented by K-12 Executive Principal Mrs. Facci. Remarks were given by Class President Judy Chen; Salutatorian Heather Roberts; Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shelmidine; and Valedictorian Victor Lee.
A senior song was also performed by graduating seniors Kristen Despine, Gianna LaBella, Hannah Mahardy and Maria Maloney.
Diplomas were then presented to each of the graduates by Dr. Shelmidine and Mrs. Facci as K-12 Principal Mr. Dodge announced each of the graduates’ names. The ceremony concluded with the signing of the Alma Mater by the Class of 2021.
The graduation ceremony was a welcome change from a school year of social distancing, remote learning, and ever-changing protocols. Each of the seniors took these challenges in stride and earned their diplomas, and the District is proud of each and every one of them.
Congratulations to the Class of 2021, and best of luck in your future endeavors!
