Usernames & Passwords

Username Format

Usernames and passwords follow the traditional convention of first initial, last name (e.g., jsmith). Student usernames are also prefixed with graduation year (e.g. 15jdoe).

Student Passwords

Student passwords have changed, and have been assigned as follows:

  • K-2 – no password, username only
  • 3-6 – 4-character passwords (simple dictionary words)
  • 7-12 – Chosen by student at first login

Forgotten Passwords

Please note that user passwords are not stored or recorded; it is your responsibility to safely maintain your login information.  If you forget your password, please contact the Technology Department to have it reset.

Password Safety

Your password secures all information to which you have been granted access. All network and/or computer interaction performed under a username and password is the responsibility of the person to whom the username was assigned. Your username and password must remain confidential; it is imperative that you do not share your username and password with anyone.  Students gaining access to your password can gain full access to your files, e-mail, attendance, grades, and personal information.

Do not share your username and password with anyone.

Do not post your password on or near your computer.

If you suspect that someone has obtained your password, it is your responsibility to change it immediately (Control + Alt + Delete ► Change Password), and to notify the Technology Department by submitting a Help Desk ticket (http://helpdesk.newyorkmills.org).
